Subject: Good glass and water attributes

Dear All.
Someone must have some useful information on this. I am rendering a
scene that needs a lot of glass and water, but none of the attributes
I've tried so far give the right look.
GLASS.
The glass needs to be slightly milky so that it partially obscures the
backdrop, it is bluish in colour and reflects very slightly the
reflection map I am using. All the attributes I have tried so far
appear too `hard' and the objects resemble diamond more than glass.
WATER.
I am modelling a large expanse of water and again I am finding that the
water looks `too small' and very artificial. I am using a very soft
light to illuminate the scene and the water sticks out like a sore thumb
- real bodies of water don`t have a lot of sparkle except in direct
light, they tend to look quite silky, (erm well you know what I mean I'm
sure).
(For reference - there is some excellent LightWave rendered water in
`Babylon 5' (`The Long Twilight Struggle' for those who have it on tape)
- outside the Alpha Centauran palace there is a pool with a very soft
texture that looked just perfect)
If it helps, I don`t need the water to be transparent - it just has to
